Wisconsin State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa, a Latina of Mexican-American descent has joined a growing list of out bisexual-identified LGBTQ politicians when she came out in an interview with Georgia Pabst in her “Latino Connection” blog in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

( Zamarripa defeated challenger Laura Manriquez in the Democratic primary and no Republican has filed to run for this seat, so it seems all but certain that Representative Zamarripa will go on to fill a 2nd term. )

I've seen bisexual friends, whose lives were heteronormative in every way, lose their jobs because they came out as bisexual at work. Just because you've got the opposite sex partner/spouse, the house, the kids and the traditional gender presentation doesn't mean that heteroprivilege can't be pulled out from underneath you at any time like a rug.

( I can't help noticing that the whole subject of heteroprivilege comes up whenever bisexuality comes up or when a bisexual comes out in a LGBTQ organization. )

( In the 8th grade, I 'came out' as gay when I professed my love for Billy . . . in the 10th grade, I discovered that I was also into the female form . . . in senior year I 'came out' (again), this time as bisexual )

In her advice column of Friday December 28th 2007 entitled "Oh, the Things You Find Out Online", Margo Howard (daughter of the late Ann Landers) advised a married man who found himself blurting out "I love you" to a male friend that, "You are gay" and some how unaccountably left out the "B" word.
